Operator of Coast’s newest pub, 60 jobs

By Ed Hackenberg

A NEW hotel at Bli Bli will be operated by the family-owned business which runs the Brightwater Hotel and Parklands and Bellvista Taverns.

Sunshine Coast Hotels group managing director Scott Armstrong said Bli Bli’s solid growth, with a strong population of families and retirees, which made it a logical location for a fourth hotel.

The Bli Bli Hotel will include a drive through bottle shop and gaming lounge with poker machines and Keno on the lower level, with a bistro, function rooms, sports bar and TAB on the top level.

Mr Armstrong estimated the hotel would provide up to 60 full and part-time jobs, with a strong emphasis on employing locals.

“We also like to support local schools, community groups and sporting clubs so that will be high on our agenda when we open,” he said.

Bli Bli Village Centre developer Michael White said the Sunshine Coast Hotels group was “the perfect fit” for the development and would complement the existing River Markets shopping centre.

The Village Centre will include a seven-day medical centre, gym, dentist, barber, podiatrist, hairdresser, real estate agency and food outlets.

Construction of the hotel precinct is due to start later this year and the first stage of the Village Centre is set to start in April.

The site, on the corner of the David Low Way and Bli Bli Rd, has sat idle since it was excavated last year.

Mr White said the excavation had been timed to provide fill for a development on Crosby Hill Rd, Buderim, which offset the Village Centre costs.

The council is also yet to approve an application to build 13 permanent units on the site instead of 20 short stay units which were part of the original approval.
