CYCLING between Bli Bli and Maroochydore has just got a whole lot easier with the completion of a $2.7 million cycleway.
Sunshine Coast Council Deputy Mayor Chris Thompson said the staged project provided a safe route for cyclists of all abilities.
“Council has recently completed the final section of this cycleway, which has been constructed in stages over the past three years to connect Bli Bli to the Eudlo Creek Bridge,” Cr Thompson said.
“Cyclists and pedestrians alike can now enjoy a safer journey from the castle at Bli Bli to Eudlo Creek.”
“This new cycleway not only encourages an active, healthy community but will also take cars off the road to help the council achieve its goal of becoming Australia’s most sustainable region.”
Cr Robinson said the staged project included a new shared concrete pathway and other facilities.
“In addition to the concrete pathway, we’ve provided pedestrian refuges, rest areas, shade trees and landscaping nodes to enhance the overall road corridor,” Cr Robinson said.
“This project was also a good opportunity to realign the McDonald’s Road intersection to accommodate the rest area between Edgewater and Petrie Creek, which provides a great mid- journey resting point overlooking Petrie Creek.”
“The Bli Bli community continues to grow and it is important Council provides quality facilities for the residents, which include many young families.”
Cr Robinson said the council was working with Department of Transport and Main Roads on an upgrade for the Eudlo Creek Bridge to complete the link to Bradman Avenue.
Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Jackie Trad said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to working with local governments to deliver cycling infrastructure in Queensland.
“The state government committed $1.36 million to deliver this project to complete gaps in the local cycle network and deliver better, safer and more connected cycling infrastructure,” Ms Trad said.
“We have also committed an additional $500,000 for the upgrade of the Eudlo Creek bridge approaches.”
