Proposed Bli Bli Heritage Community Branch

By Genna Baker

Proposed Bli Bli Heritage Community Branch

The Bli Bli Community Association in collaboration with a number of local business identities have established a Bli Bli Community Branch Steering Committee to gauge interest in establishing a Heritage Community Branch within Bli Bli.

The proposed Heritage Community Branch will provide significant benefits to the local community however significant funds need to be raised to ensure the project comes to fruition.

The Bli Bli Community Branch Steering Committee is inspired by the Heritage Palmwoods Community Branch, which has contributed more than $1million in grants back into the local community over the past eight years.

This type of funding is critical for local communities as it provides the opportunity to complete numerous projects that otherwise may not have been possible if it wasn’t for the mutually beneficial relationship between the Palmwoods Community Branch and the local community.

This is an exciting opportunity for the Bli Bli community and it will not be possible without your support.

About the proposed Bli Bli Community Branch

The Community Branch would be a joint venture between the community and Heritage Bank offering a proven successful model of community banking.  Bli Bli residents would have access to all of the benefits of a full service bank with a complete range of banking and financial services which would include its own manager and staff.

Heritage Bank currently operates seven community branch outlets in Southern Queensland, in partnership with the local community, proving the success of the model

What are the benefits to Bli Bli?

  • Proven local banking services
  • Provide local jobs
  • Potentially attract new businesses to Bli Bli
  • Distribution of profits to the local community including charities, sporting clubs, schools and other projects which will benefit the local area.

How much finding is required?

As a guide the Bli Bli Community Branch Steering Committee aim to raise $400,000 from community pledges. Local residents can help to achieve this target by becoming a member of the ‘community company’ and investing a minimum of $100 to a maximum of $5,000.  These funds will be set aside for a ten year term* at an attractive rate of interest above the standard rate. Both the pledge amount and interest will be returned when the company becomes viable.

*This capital is used for the community’s start up and ongoing expenses (until profitable). There are no fees payable from this capital to either the Heritage Bank, the committee or the company and its directors.
